United-Continental merger won't dent competition in D.C., panel finds

Competition in the Washington, D.C., market is keeping airfares low, according to the nonprofit Washington Airports Task Force, and the pending merger between United Airlines and Continental Airlines is expected to increase competition even further. Task force president Leo Schefer says the merger "will help us expand and increase our international market share in this region," and aviation expert William Swelbar says flights to Latin America will likely see the biggest boost.
