Some hospital systems step into the insurance business

New York's North Shore-LIJ Health System is among the hospital systems planning to provide health insurance as well as health care. Some 20% of health care networks also sell an insurance product and more plan to do so, according to a survey by research firm The Advisory Board Company. The transition from fee-for-service to per-patient payment is driving the change, experts say.
