$1.1M will let Air Force dermatologist shine a laser light on scars

Lt. Col. Chad Hivnor, a dermatologist with the 59th Medical Specialty Squadron, received a $1.1 million grant to study whether laser therapy can help improve the range of motion of patients with scars from amputations and burns. Carbon dioxide laser therapy promoted sweat and removed hair, which can lead to frictional folliculitis related to prosthetics. The study is being conducted with researchers at Shriners Hospital in Boston and Massachusetts General Hospital.
