Apple gets a patent for an iPhone-based remote control

Apple reportedly has received a patent for technology that turns an iPhone into a remote control for home theater systems, according to the AppleInsider website. The granting of U.S. Patent No. 8,519,820 renews speculation that the company is preparing a new television system. Meanwhile, the existing Apple TV set-top box now has applications for Disney cable channels, the Weather Channel, the Vevo music-video service and the Smithsonian Channel.
