Calif. extends length of graduate teaching programs

California has removed a one-year cap on the length of graduate teaching programs. Under legislation signed into law Tuesday by Gov. Jerry Brown, the cap -- in place since 1970 -- will be extended to two years. Officials said the one-year deadline has become harder to meet as teacher trainees have been required to complete more requirements, including student health and instruction on English-language learners.
