Diabetes patients show disordered sweet taste receptors in the gut

Type 2 diabetes patients showed higher 3-O-methyl glucose concentrations and increased levels of intestinal sweet taste receptors during acute hyperglycemia compared with their healthier peers, which may enhance glucose absorption and worsen postprandial hyperglycemia in diabetes patients, a study indicated. However, the rates of sweet taste receptors were similar for both groups during euglycemia, researchers wrote in Diabetes.
