Gene that causes red hair may lead to melanoma risk

The same genetic mutation that causes red hair and fair skin also triggers a specific biochemical signaling pathway associated with cancer upon exposure to ultraviolet radiation, an animal study found. The finding may provide a molecular target for future melanoma drugs. The study was reported in Molecular Cell.
