How ESPN navigates its 400-game college football schedule

ESPN's college football schedule is a "3D chessboard of over 400 games each year," according to Burke Magnus, senior vice president of college sports programming. The season begins on Thursday with a game between North Carolina and South Carolina, and by the end of Labor Day weekend, ESPN or its cable, broadband and broadcast siblings will have aired 46 games. "The more games should put downward pressure on overall ratings. College football is defying gravity," Magnus said.
