Long Beach Airport may phase out security guards for local cops

The Long Beach Airport Association’s Board of Directors says the airport's plan to change from trained security guards to uniformed local police officers could be costly. Currently, the airport uses a mix of police and trained guards, an airport spokeswoman said. "LBPD personnel patrolling the interior of the airport have created runway incursions, as well as had multiple incidences where officers have engaged clients and customers on ramps, and have ramp-checked pilots and aircraft owners in a manner not consistent with (Federal Aviation Administration) policy," board members wrote in a letter, requesting a cost-benefit analysis of the proposed shift.
