Only Transocean should face Clean Water Act fines for Gulf spill, BP, Anadarko says

BP and Anadarko Petroleum should not be subject to Clean Water Act penalties over the 2010 Gulf of Mexico oil spill, the companies told a federal court. Under a section of the Clean Water Act, only Transocean should be held accountable as its Deepwater Horizon rig was the source of the oil, the companies said. BP and Anadarko could avoid billions of dollars in fines should they succeed in their argument.
