Re-authorization of federal law could alter research definitions

Changes to the Education Sciences Reform Act, which hasn't been updated by Congress in six years, might be on the horizon with the House scheduled to hold a hearing on the law next month. Among expected changes is tweaking "scientifically based research" to read "scientifically valid research," which would allow for different types of research structures beyond controlled trials.
