Renderings: What might have been in the built environment

Three exhibits in U.S. cities focus on that which never came to be -- building concepts that were once thought of as "crazy" or "dumb," that if built could have changed the landscape. This article looks at eight such ideas, including integrating a hydroelectric power plant with the Golden Gate Bridge and Frank Lloyd Wright's skyscraper called The Illinois, which would have been just under a mile high.
