Va. DOT uses prefab composite units to speed up bridge construction

The Virginia Department of Transportation's four-year, 11-bridge rehabilitation project in Richmond uses accelerated bridge construction techniques to speed up the work, and only one general contractor for the project, Atlanta-based Archer Western Construction. The $106.6 million project uses 234 "unique prefabricated bridge superstructure units," which "equates to 9,500 cubic yards of concrete and 2.5 million pounds of steel."
