Weight-loss program helps black women shed pounds

A study in JAMA Internal Medicine revealed that overweight and obese black women who participated in a weight-loss program that included self-monitoring, access to a gym and monthly counseling lost an average of 2 pounds at one year, while those who received usual care gained 1 pound during the same period. Researchers also found that 62% of those in the intervention group were at or below their initial weight at one year, compared with 45% in the control group.
