West Africa is too dependent on foreign research collaborations, studies find

Countries in West Africa rely too heavily on collaborations with Western nations for scientific research, according to two studies in Scientometrics. "West African countries cooperated less with each other and less with African and developing countries than they did with developed ones," according to a study to be published in September. Research published in June focused on Benin, saying that it is focusing more on its international backers and not on activities that would further the country's development.
