Should it win the coveted nomination, New York City would have make plans for thousands of apartments, a stadium and smaller sites as well as extend the subway system. San Francisco would need to renovate Stanford Stadium, build an Olympic Village and extend its transit system. Washington, D.C., and Houston were eliminated from the running. The decision on a U.S. offering will be made in November; the final city won't be chosen until 2005.
