Modern air traffic control quietly and environmentally efficient

UPS in Louisville is already putting to work some of the technology that will eventually replace the current radar-based air traffic control system. Automatic Dependent Surveillance-Broadcast allows the carrier's planes to follow programmed flight paths into the airport, with engines idling for most of the descent. The result is less fuel burned, lower emissions and less noise.
