Airlines lighten up to beat high fuel costs

In seeking to cut fuel bills, airlines have made weight reduction an everyday part of doing business. Carriers already have removed footrests, lightened up on service carts and cut back on potable water. Now they are looking to technology to cut their weight still further, replacing paper navigation charts with digital versions and substituting new lightweight wiring for copper.
