EPA to propose Utah's U.S. Magnesium plant for Superfund list

The EPA is expected to propose next week that U.S. Magnesium be put on the Superfund list so that the company can be ordered to pay for a multimillion-dollar cleanup at its Utah magnesium plant, which has for years been ranked as the nation's worst polluter. A federal judge last year rejected much of the EPA's $1 billion lawsuit against the company, and U.S. Magnesium has registered objections to the Superfund listing, saying the agency failed to follow its own processes and has misinterpreted the relevant science and law.
