A Chicago-area teachers cooperative has focused on the needs of children with disabilities and their instructors for more than 40 years. The Northwest Suburban Special Education Organization serves about 7,000 students, sharing special-education resources, faculty and support among eight suburban school districts. "You are a beacon in the state," the Illinois education superintendent told members an a recent anniversary event. "When I look for better practices in IT, transition plans, assessment and responses to intervention, I look here."
