Google Wallet is going after a lot more than payments

Google is looking to make Google Wallet more than an mobile-payment system, turning it into a catchall for gift cards, tickets, credentials and the like. "We want you to be able to leave your leather wallet at home and carry your phone and transact with that as your primary transaction device," Robin Dua, head of product management for Google Wallet, says in a video for developers. A number of other firms, including Apple, are planning similar offerings.
