Study IDs successful weight-loss habits among older women

University of Pittsburgh researchers followed about 500 overweight, postmenopausal women in their 50s for four years and found that those in the nutrition-and-exercise group lost an average of 8 pounds, compared with about a half a pound for those in the general-health group. Women who consumed fewer sugary desserts and beverages, limited meat and cheeses, and added fruits and vegetables to their diet were able to lose weight and keep it off, according to the study in the Journal of the Academy of Nutrition and Dietetics.
