Ala. expands weekend food program to more schools

Some schools in Alabama are participating in a new pilot program this year in which students will be given bags of food to take home each weekend. The Weekenders program, which first launched in 2007, is intended to help provide meals for students who may not have access to food when they leave school. When the program launched only one school participated, but this year the meals will be served to students in 28 schools.
