News that soft drink companies in Mexico will buy more Mexican cane sugar, leaving less for export, "has to be considered good news," wrote American Crystal Sugar CEO David Berg on his company blog. "All things considered there was room for Mexican sugar, until this year, when their production just popped," he said in an Associated Press interview. "We were in balance before. We're not in balance now. We're plainly in surplus." It's still unknown how exactly the news will affect sugar prices.
