Canadian city gets creative to increase waste-diversion rate

Edmonton, Alberta, already diverts 60% of its waste from landfills but has a goal of 90% diversion. The city's integrated efforts include exploring waste-to-energy options, and a facility should open in 2015 that will take waste and eventually convert it to methanol or ethanol.
