Foursquare shifts focus to local business discovery

Foursquare is shifting away from a game-based model of check-ins to becoming a location discovery service that helps users search nearby venues, mobile business development lead David Ban says. The mobile application will no longer include an activity feed but instead includes recommendations for coffee shops, bars and other businesses. "All the social aspects that Foursquare is known for -- they're baked into powering the recommendations," Ban says.
