Lessons learned from India's economic development

Communities in North Carolina can learn from the example set by India as they strive to deal with the challenges that come with population growth, according to Winston-Salem State University geographer Russell M. Smith. India is using public-private partnerships to address its infrastructure needs, and it has created a results-based way to track the success of green development, he notes in this commentary. The interconnected nature of the modern world provides "a golden opportunity to take the best ideas the world has to offer and put them to work here in our own communities," he writes.
