Manufacturing's recovery varies by industry

The recession left manufacturing in a deep hole to climb out of, and the recovery is not yet complete. Some industries remain well below their previous cyclical peak, while others are fully recovered and are in an expansion phase. Several manufacturing industries supplying the construction sector remain depressed; others struggle amid structural change. Parts of the electronics, machinery, transportation and food industries have recovered from the recession and are setting new production records. Issues in Brief
