NSF skips its Aug. call for political-science proposals

The National Science Foundation has decided to skip a political-science grant call that typically takes place in the middle of August. The agency says it will hold its January call, however. The reasons for the agency's decision are not entirely clear, but some believe they are linked to a congressional bill requiring the agency only fund political-science projects that promote national security or economic vitality. That requirement is scheduled to run out at the end of September.
