Oracle: New chip will boost software performance

Oracle says its latest SPARC M6 chip will improve database performance thanks to 12 processor cores, double what the previous chip offered. The chip has also been tweaked specifically for the company's software, says Oracle's Ali Vahidsafa. "What runs on these servers is consolidation of virtual workloads, and single-image databases, in particular in-memory databases and application. Both of those can benefit from higher thread count and higher memory footprint," Vahidsafa said.
