Oxitec seeks Spain's approval to field-test biotech olive flies

U.K. biotech firm Oxitec is seeking approval to field-test its biotech olive fly strain, OX3097D-Bol, at an olive grove in Spain. The trial will assess the male biotech fly's ability to survive and mate in net-covered trees. Any offspring would not develop, according to the company. The fly could help protect trees from pests.
