Phoenix is one of the many major metropolitan areas experiencing a shortage of skilled construction labor, and some contractors find the only way to find qualified people is to lure them from other companies by paying them more, according to reports. Data from the Associated General Contractors of America reveals that there are 97,000 construction workers in Phoenix, a 9% increase since last summer. The Maricopa Skill Center hopes to alleviate the shortage. Their trade graduates -- who are trained for four to eight months -- are hired swiftly.
