World's first wave-powered desalination plant to be built in Australia

Australia will soon become home to world's first wave-powered desalination facility. Water Corp. and Carnegie Wave Energy have agreed to build the 2-megawatt pilot project that will use Carnegie's CETO technology, consisting of 36-foot-diameter buoys that will be submerged and fastened to "pumps which deliver pressurized water onshore via an underwater pipe" to generate power or to supply water for the plant. Work is expected to begin in 2014.
