A study in Generating Evidence & Methods to improve patient outcomes showed the use of clinical event notification services helped regional health information exchanges identify 219 emergency department admissions and allow care coordination teams to confer directly to the ED. Researches said the use of CENs is "a logical next step toward fully utilizing the potential of HIE...widespread use of CEN systems has the potential to decrease avoidable admissions, testing and procedures, and thereby decrease costs."
