MIT lab experiment could revolutionize power generation

08/28/2014 | MIT Technology Review online

Researchers at the Massachusetts Institute of Technology have demonstrated a new way to generate electricity through igniting a yarn made of carbon nanotubes, coated with TNT. The physics involved are similar to that of an internal combustion engine, they note. If the research team in MIT's chemical engineering laboratory can improve the energy-conversion efficiency of the nanogenerator, the technology has potential applications in powering electric vehicles and portable electronics.
