Research ties gene mutation to higher diabetes risk

Individuals who carry a rare genetic variant of peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma had a sevenfold increased risk of developing type 2 diabetes than those who did not carry the mutation, research showed. The results appear in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences.
