California's special-ed students may get reprieve on exit exam

Thanks to a legal settlement announced Friday, students with special needs expected to graduate next year likely will not have to pass the new high school state exam. The settlement would take effect only if lawmakers pass an amendment to the current law, which says all students must take the test. The amendment is expected to pass.
