Mississippi River bridge closed after slight settling

A major bridge crossing the Mississippi River between Memphis, Tenn., and West Memphis, Ark., was closed for nine hours on Monday after inspectors noticed that a small approach span had settled three inches overnight. Other piers still supported the approach span, and officials said the problem was likely caused by additional, longer pilings being driven to boost the bridge's stability.
