NYC kindergartners may be given 90-minute math, reading tests

Some 65 New York City principals have expressed interest in a new citywide pilot to add kindergarten through second-grade math and reading tests. The standardized tests would help educators better track student progress, said the city education department's accountability officer, James S. Liebman. But some teachers and parents fear the move will make the lower grades too stressful.
