Federal Reserve Chairman Ben Bernanke says he wants to put to rest the idea that the central bank can help the struggling economy by manipulating the money supply and interest rates. "Central bankers alone cannot solve the world's economic problems," he said at the Fed's annual policy symposium. If the economy is to move into a sustained recovery, business investment and consumer spending must take the lead, Bernanke said.
