Study: EU's biofuels policy is disrupting food output in Africa

Biofuel developers from Europe, Brazil and China have purchased more than 12.35 million acres in Africa since 2006 to develop jatropha for biofuels production, resulting in loss of forests and taking away land from food production, according to a study by Friends of the Earth. "The EU's mandatory target for increasing agrofuels is a clear driver to the land-grabbing in Africa," the group said.
