U.S. focuses probe of Gulf disaster on well-design flaws

U.S. investigators are focusing on the responsibility BP's Houston unit had in possible well-design defects that might have played a role in the Gulf of Mexico rig blast. They are particularly interested in Houston-based supervisor John Guide, named by workers as the leading official behind the well's design. "What was interesting to me is that [two BP officials] have pointed at Mr. John Guide, the well team leader, as the decision-maker," said U.S. Coast Guard Capt. Hung Nguyen, head of the Coast Guard-Department of the Interior joint investigative panel.
