Social-network comments track Hurricane Irene

Social-network postings reflected the progress of Hurricane Irene as it swept up the East Coast over the weekend. Tweets and Facebook comments reflected everything from alarm to concern to outright dismissal as the storm weakened along its inland path. Even so, Twitter had more than 3,000 tweets a minute by 2 p.m. Saturday, with the storm accounting for seven of the top 10 trending topics.
