The proposed Keystone XL pipeline would have an adverse effect on the environment as the release of tar sands could increase carbon pollution, according to a report from Sierra Club. Environmental groups overestimate such a risk, said Eric Wohlschlegel, a spokesman for the American Petroleum Institute. "This project is one of the biggest job growth opportunities ahead of us here in the United States. Any effort to try to justify what the State Department has already deemed as not significant impact on the environment is a distraction to what the American people are focused on: which is jobs," Wohlschlegel said.
