CDC report finds room for improvement in teen vaccination rates

Vaccination coverage for tetanus, diphtheria and acellular pertussis; meningococcal meningitis; and chickenpox among 13- to 17-year-olds increased between 2011 and 2012, but failed to meet targeted rates, CDC researchers wrote in Morbidity and Mortality Weekly Report. In 2012, 84.6% of youths received the Tdap booster shot, 74% were vaccinated against meningitis and about 75% were given two doses of chickenpox vaccine. The proportion of boys who received at least one dose of the HPV vaccine rose to 20.8%, but stalled at about 54% in girls.
