Healthy foods may aggravate GI symptoms, dietitian says

Even the healthiest foods, such as fruits or salads, can cause problems for people with digestive disorders such as acid reflux, irritable bowel syndrome and inflammatory bowel disease, writes Tamara Duker Freuman, a dietitian in a gastroenterology practice. She points out that raw vegetables can aggravate acid reflux symptoms; the fructose in fruits can lead to abdominal pain, bloating and diarrhea in people with IBS; and high-fiber products or whole grains can result in painful IBD symptoms.
