Lawn-mower race enthusiasts in Payson, Ariz., are adopting safety practices related to the motor sport, including protective clothing and a tether to stop the engine if a rider falls off. "We take every precaution we can," said Roger Hope, who founded a local lawn mower racing association. Hope's daughter, Heather, races in a Sears Craftsman riding mower called the "Big Green."
