Increased use of nurse practitioners and other health care providers is one potential solution to the primary care shortage. NPs "can spend more time with patients and get more information to make sure we are heading in the right direction," said Christina Braun, an NP in the kidney and pancreas transplant program at the University of Pennsylvania Health System.
