Regulators ease proposal on mortgage risk retention

Six U.S. regulators have reproposed a requirement that banks retain a stake in mortgages they bundle and sell to investors as securities. The proposal, an update of one from 2011, would exempt more loans by ridding a requirement under the Qualified Residential Mortgage rule. "Our goal as regulators is to provide clear rules that allow for robust markets that meet the needs of creditworthy borrowers in a safe and sound manner," said Paul Nash of the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency.
