The router market saw 3.7% growth in the second quarter, IDC says, while overall Ethernet-switch revenue dropped 1.1%. But revenues were up 12.9% in the 10-gigabit Ethernet-switch market, with shipments up 52%. "As the market evolves towards a unified network edge in the enterprise, gigabit Ethernet is expected to hold its own for the foreseeable future as we look at new applications for the emerging Internet of Things," said IDC's Petr Jirovsky.
